VZW Prinses Máxima Centrum Foundation Belgium
In Belgium, around 400 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. The disease has a profound impact on these children and their families, and the need for specialized care remains significant.
To further strengthen pediatric oncology care in Belgium, the Princess Máxima Center Foundation Belgium (a non-profit organization) offers Belgian healthcare professionals the opportunity to undergo specialized training at the Princess Máxima Center in Utrecht. They then bring the knowledge and experience gained at Europe’s largest pediatric oncology center back to Belgium to apply in their daily clinical practice.
In addition, the non-profit organization advocates for a more centralized approach to pediatric oncology care in Belgium. Currently, children with cancer are treated at seven centers across the country, resulting in fragmented expertise. A more centralized approach—such as that of the Princess Máxima Center in Utrecht—could improve care for children with cancer and increase their chances of survival.
